The JAMB aggregate score is calculated by adding the cumulative score from your O’level, UTME, and post-UTME results. The UTME result accounts for 50% of the total aggregate score, the post-UTME score accounts for 30%, while your O’level result grading accounts for the remaining 20%. In the course of our discussion, we are going to show you how to calculate each of these results and subsequently sum them up to get your JAMB aggregate score.

What is JAMB aggregate?

The JAMB aggregate score is the cumulative score from the O’level, JAMB and post-UTME results.  It is obtained from calculating these three results and getting their average. If you have high scores in these results, your JAMB aggregate is definitely going to be high, but if your score is below average in these results, you may have low scores, which may cause you not to get admission.

How to Calculate JAMB Aggregate Score for UTME

How to Calculate JAMB Aggregate Score

Calculating the JAMB aggregate score is not difficult since it only involves a few steps. Meanwhile, getting the aggregate or cumulative score requires getting the average grades from O’level, JAMB, and post-UTME results.  It is important to note that your UTME score accounts for the 50% aggregate score, your post-UTME account for 30%, and the O’level determines the remaining 20% score.

For clear understanding, we are going to show you how to calculate the aggregate for each of these three results and subsequently add them together to get the JAMB aggregate score. Let’s begin.

For the O’level result

The aggregate is gotten by calculating the cumulative score of the five core subjects in your field of study.  The O’level grading goes thus:

S/N Grade Points
1. A1 6
2. B2 5
3. B3 4
4. C4 3
5. C5 2
6. C6 1

N/B; this O’level grading and points are the same for NECO and WAEC.

Let’s assume you are a science student and got the following grades in your O’level result: EnglishB3, MathematicsC4, ChemistryB2, BiologyA1, PhysicsC5. The corresponding points will be 4+3+5+6+2 = 20.

Now, the maximum point is 30 and it is prorated by 20, i.e., 20/30 = ⅔

Then, the total points gotten is 20 multiplied by ⅔ = 20*⅔ = 13.33

Take note of this last aggregate for the O’level result.

For UTME (JAMB) result

As we stated above, it accounts for 50% of the overall aggregate.

Let’s assume you got 270 in your UTME; it will be 270/400*50 or 270/8 = 33.75

For Post-UTME result

This accounts for 30% of the cumulative score.

For instance, let’s say you score 72 in your post-UTME; it will be 72*30/100 = 21.6.

Finally, the JAMB aggregate for candidates with this O’level, UTME, post-UTME results will be 13.33 + 33.75 + 21.6 = 68.68. The JAMB aggregate score for this candidate is 68.68

If you follow the steps we outlined in this article succinctly, you will be able to calculate your JAMB aggregate score using your own personal result with ease.
